All About Beer - Ken’s brief moment of fame… extended!

11:15 pm

Today I got an email from a long time friend of my mother’s.  Ken, a fantastic designer at bonotom.com (send him some business).  Anyhow, here is the story, as told by him!

“So there I was at the Whole Foods checkout with my lunch, when I look up and there’s AllAboutBeer #29.2! A whole line of them, with the 125 Places cover repeated six times. At the top of the rack—eye level. My friend Tom, who was with me, yells out, “he designed that magazine” No applause, no free lunch, a few turned heads, but for a nanosecond, celebrity.”

So, I am attempting to extend that celebrity for a moment.  Without further delay… the magazine “he designed”…

Chocolate / Vanilla Cheesecake

April 18, 2008 4:05 pm

MMMM!  Here is a recipe for a fantastic cheesecake.

Crust:

  • 20 Oreo cookies, crushed
  • 3 Tbsp Butter, melted

Mix the butter and crushed oreos until evenly coated. Press into the bottom of a 9 inch spreingofmr pan and set aside.

Cake

  • 4 pkgs Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar (You could substitute condensed milk to make it creamier)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 eggs
  • 6 squares semi-sweet bakers’ chocolate, melted
  1. Mix all ingredients except chocolate.  Set aside one cup of mix and pour the remainder into the springform pan on top of the crust. With the mix you set aside, stir in the melted bakers’ chocolate. When evenly mixed, swirl into the springform with a wooden spoon.
  2. Using a water bath, bake the cheesecake for 50 minutes at 375. At the end of the 50 minutes, the cake should only slightly jiggle when removing it from the over. Let it cool for approximately an hour and then place into the refrigerator overnight.
  3. Leave the cheesecake in the refrigerator until you are about to serve it. This goes great with a little chocolate syrup drizzled over the cake or possibly a couple fresh strawberries.
